Democrat Diane L. Murray-Clements has dedicated her life to empowering and championing her community. The daughter of the late John and Dr. Jean A. Murray, she has been a resident and active community member of Hillside for her entire life. After graduating from Bloomfield College with a degree in Business Management, Diane returned to Hillside, where she resides with her husband and children, Warren, Diana, and Nile.
For the past 14 years, Diane has operated her insurance agency. She is always looking for opportunities to "lift as she climbs" and has been able to employ senior citizens and Kean University interns from Hillside, Union, Roselle, and Elizabeth to assist in her office. Constantly thinking of others this helped to birth, It's A Sure Thing on YouTube, which increases visibility for Black and Minority-Owned Businesses every Saturday at 11 am.
In the community, Mrs. Murray-Clements is a valuable resource to Union County residents and an active member of Franklin-St. John's United Methodist Church. Diane has served as a Trustee Committee member, Food Pantry volunteer, and Girl Scout Troop leader. Most notably, however, she served as the President of the church's credit union, where she could beat large banks' interest rates and offer affordable loans and encourage saving practices. Murray-Clements has also served as a board and community liaison member, playing an instrumental role in providing health education at a local Family Health Center and opening a school-based health clinic at 13th Ave. School. Following the devastation of Hurricane Marie, Diane collaborated with Hillside residents and an Elizabeth trucking company to collect water and supplies for Puerto Rico. Several days of the week, you could also find Diane at the YM-YWHA of Union County.
